Eating Disorder Hotlines
If you are worried about yourself or a loved one struggling with an eating disorder, there are several hotlines you should consider contacting. In fact, the National Eating Disorders Association offers a few different ways to reach a hotline. These ways include texting, calling, or even instant messaging. A representative is available to text with on Mondays through Thursdays, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM Eastern Time, and you can reach them via phone call on Mondays through Thursdays between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM Eastern Time, or on Fridays between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Lastly, they are available for online chat between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM Eastern Time on Mondays through Thursdays, and on Fridays from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. If you are unable to reach someone, you can always leave a message and they will get back to you.
However, if you or a loved one is in a state of crisis, you can also text “NEDA” to 741-741 and reach a properly trained volunteer at the Crisis Text Line.

There are several eating disorder treatment resources in New York City, including Monte Nido Manhattan, Sanctuary, BALANCE, and The Renfrew Center. The National Eating Disorders Association’s headquarters are also located in New York. They offer incredible resources not only for those who are suffering from eating disorders themselves, but also for their loved ones.
Monte Nido Manhattan
Sanctuary was co-founded by our very own Greta Gleissner. Located near Manhattan’s Columbus Circle, Sanctuary’s main goal is to provide a toolbox for their patients, which they can use to settle and heal their nervous systems while encouraging the formation of new outlooks. BALANCE is located on 21st street in the Flatiron district; they offer outpatient care to teens and adults of all genders. They employ an integrative treatment model and offer flexible program schedules, as well as groups for allies of those in recovery.
The Renfrew Center is located in Manhattan’s Midtown West; now boasting almost 20 locations across the United States, it was the country’s first residential eating disorder facility. The Renfrew Center focuses on treating adolescent girls and women, and offer a wide variety of recovery tools, including day treatment, outpatient, intensive outpatient, as well as residential treatment.
