Social media is a tricky, multi-faceted phenomenon of our time that can do both harm and good. But while there are many Instagram feeds, Facebook posts, and blogs that may trigger individuals in recovery from an eating disorder by promoting unhealthy mindset and behaviors, social media can support recovery by being a force of inspiration.

In the United States, 30 million people will struggle with an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Disordered eating can be experienced in myriad ways, affecting both youth and adults as well as males and females. No matter the manifestation, eating disorders are serious, often life-threatening illnesses.
It is easy in the busyness of life to dismiss self-care as something you “don’t have time for,” but in fact we all have innumerable opportunities to practice self care every day.
Often in these cold months, we find ourselves affected by what is called “Vata-excess” in Ayurveda (a mind-body health system developed in ancient India which translates as “the science of life”). It can often feel difficult getting grounded in winter. The external conditions of the season — short days, chilly temperatures, and dry weather — directly impact our internal climate, making us prone to feel more frazzled, snippy, and in our heads.
